Coordination of Intensive Care Transports
In May 2008 the Central Coordination Center for Intensive Care Transports in Baden-Württemberg (ZKS) started to operate at the Operation-Center of the DRF Luftrettung in Rheinmünster. On behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs of Baden-Württemberg it coordinates intensive care transports.
The ZKS in brief
- Mission coordinators of the DRK (German Red Cross) and the DRF Luftrettung are responsible for the mission logistics of the three intensive care helicopters of the DRF Luftrettung (Stuttgart, Mannheim and Freiburg) as well as the four ground based intensive care vehicles of various ground based rescue services (Stuttgart, Freiburg, Mannheim, Ulm). If necessary also nation-wide intensive care transport services are alerted.
- For the first time the various rescue organisations, the DRK (German Red Cross), the Malteser Hilfsdienst, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund and the Johanniter Unfallhilfe cooperate providing for the medical staff of the ground based intensive care vehicles. The pilot project comprises 4 years.
- The Coordination Center can be reached from Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m, as well as during the week-ends and on holidays from 7 a.m. to sunset under: +49-711-7007-7777.
Advantages of the rescue services
The ground based intensive care vehicle is especially suitable for patient transports within shorter distances. It shall be used for patient transports of 60 kilometres and/or patient transports lasting up to one hour. The intensive care helicopter is used for the fast and convenient transport on longer distances in the whole are area of Baden-Württemberg. Because of the short lead time it is especially suitable for urgent intensive care transports.
