HDM Luftrettung gemeinnützige GmbH was founded in 1972, and stands out in its competence in the areas of intensive care patient transport and air rescue at night.
As a part of DRF Luftrettung, it operates five HEMS bases nationwide, in Bad Berka, Berlin, Munich, Nuremberg, and Regensburg, Germany. Helicopter types that are used include the Bell 412, the EC 145 and the BK 117. HDM Luftrettung gemeinnützige GmbH has an EASA Part-145 aircraft maintenance facility at the airport of Nuremberg, Germany. Here, the headquarters is located, too. The helicopters are used to quickly and comfortably transport intensive care and emergency care patients between clinics, as well as for fast emergency rescue.
During emergencies at night, the helicopters are called on to care for and transport emergency care patients, directly at the operations location. Special procedures govern how the night flights are flown. In addition, the helicopter crews fly special intensive care transports.
The basis for its operation and technical maintenance are licenses and authorizations of the national and aeronautical authorities as well as the accreditation of the Bell Helicopter TEXTRON as a Customer Service Facility. The accreditations also include VFR-flights at night and flights according to instrument flight rules (IFR) with helicopter as well as the training and operation with NVG (Night Vision Goggles).
