New H145 Simulator
DRF Akademie expands its training portfolio
With the commissioning of a new Airbus H145 D3 Flight Training Device (FTD) Level 3, DRF Akademie is expanding its pilot training capabilities. DRF Akademie is among the first organizations to deploy the new system developed by Reiser Simulation and Training. The simulator is located at the Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) facility in Frankfurt, Germany. It provides H145 operators, Approved Training Organizations (ATOs), and pilots with a state-of-the-art training solution that combines operational relevance, flexibility, and highly realistic training scenarios.
"By investing in and commissioning this new simulator, DRF Akademie reinforces its commitment to providing high-quality training solutions for DRF Luftrettung flight crews as well as external customers – in collaboration with strong partners and with a clear focus on quality, safety, and operational excellence. This is an important investment in the future," emphasizes Florian Rabe, Managing Director of DRF Akademie. "The new system enables us to respond quickly to operational requirements while maintaining the highest training standards for our customers."
Added value for training and qualification
The simulator is equipped with a state-of-the-art mixed reality system and accurately replicates the Airbus H145 D3 equipped with the latest avionics software, version 10. It provides a robust training environment for procedures, systems knowledge, and normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures, complemented by immersive scenarios designed to enhance decision-making and cockpit teamwork.
The device has been designed to achieve Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) qualification by the aviation authorities. This will enable dedicated MCC training on the H145 platform – a capability that is new for this class of Flight Training Device.
For DRF Akademie, the commissioning of the new simulator represents an important investment in expanding its training portfolio. The introduction of the new FTD marks a strategic step towards more capable, practice-oriented, and cost-efficient pilot training. The simulator can be used across large parts of H145 pilot training as well as for MCC and IFR-related training scenarios. It enables training requirements to be addressed more precisely, capacities to be scaled more efficiently, and training programs to be delivered with greater flexibility. Customers benefit from the combination of standardized procedures and complex multi-crew operational scenarios.
Strategic advantage of the Frankfurt Training Location
A further advantage is the simulator's integration into the training infrastructure of Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) in Frankfurt. There, the new FTD Level 3 complements the existing training devices, creating a modular training environment. The location offers excellent infrastructure, high availability, and the opportunity to consolidate a wide range of qualification and recurrent training activities at a single site.
LAT is DRF Akademie’s primary partner for simulator operations, providing the housing, maintenance, and day-to-day operation of the device. Both partners intend to further expand their collaboration in this area.

"With the new H145 Flight Training Device, we are once again combining state-of-the-art simulation technology, operational expertise, and the training infrastructure at Lufthansa Aviation Training’s Frankfurt site to deliver a highly capable training solution. Our close collaboration with the DRF Akademie has, for many years, provided the ideal foundation for practical, flexible training at the highest professional standard ," says Matthias Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa Aviation Training.
Technology partnership with Reiser
Reiser Simulation and Training, a manufacturer of advanced simulation solutions with a high level of technical expertise, is the technology partner behind the project. The new device combines a highly detailed cockpit replica with cutting-edge visualization and systems integration capabilities.
For DRF Akademie, this partnership strengthens training quality, technological innovation, and long-term investment security while creating a training solution specifically designed to meet the evolving requirements of modern helicopter pilot training.
